Eastside Baxters

The muse for this shoot is my cousin Anna Lucinda Baxter, to me “Lucy”. We both live in different parts of Walyalup (Fremantle), a medium sized town on Nyoongar boodja (South West of Western Australia).

Lucy is a magnificent Mum to my cousin once removed, Arthur. She has spent some earlier years in her life modelling throughout Australia and internationally. Now in a different chapter, she has picked back up the desire to be in front of the camera. Intermittently appearing in commercial shoots around Perth.

My creative focus is portraiture with a mixture of reportage style and more deliberate poses.

Although our lives often intersect for family do’s or a catch up over beers. This is our first time collaborating over our respective practices.

Lucy is seasoned at having a perfectly composed photo of her taken. Which makes for very fluid photography with the little direction applied, most efficiently expressed and captured.

The yellow, brown and overall earthy tones from this shoot personify the current mood of where we live. It is Birak, the first summer (season of the young). Where rain has pretty much packed its bags, warm weather is the precedence and cool afternoons fight their way in through the south-westerly sea breeze.

I acknowledge the Whadjuk Nyoongar people as the traditional custodians of the land on which I’ve written this statement, and would like to pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging.
